Ginzu the Ninja is the only relatively normal one of the bunch and is a practitioner of the same martial art as Guy from Final Fight.On the surface the gameplay is exactly like Final Fight but there is a larger selection of moves available for each character. Some weapons that are available are missile launcher, M-16, ray gun, throwing ninja stars, giant mallet and many others can be use.the player can pick up health-restoring food items hidden inside barrels and other destructible objects to restore their vitality, as well as other bonus items to increase their score. Weapons also can be picked up, such as three different types of firearms, as well as shurikens that can only be used by Ginzu. The controls are very responsive to pull some combo's, and you will get used to it the more you play the game.Players also can ride certain robots by dismounting their riders and then jumping over the robot. The robots has their own vitality gauge and if they sustains enough damage, it will be destroyed. There are three types of robots in the game: a punching robot, a flame-throwing robot, and a freezing robot. Unlike Final Fight, weapons can be carried when the player makes the transition to a new area until the stage is completed.

Each level has it own boss. You might get yourself struggle fighting with the boss because their health is far more than yours. If you play the game in arcade it probably not a good idea, because you will spend coin, like a lot. The controls are very responsive to pull some combo's, and you will get used to it the more you play the game.But if you play this game on PlayStation then you will just press Start and there you go.

Three of these guys will be on the screen at the same time, slowly walking towards you, hoping to land at least one punch before you dispatch them. Survive this onslaught and you'll enter a new room where the boss resides and that's the end of that one. Captain Commando does a good job of introducing new enemies with each level but can’t ultimately avoid palette swapping eventually. The journey to the end will take you through a variety of locales such as an Aquarium, Circus, and museum. Occasionally you’ll ride a rocket powered skateboard or other vehicle to break up the hand to hand action but it does little to alleviate the feeling that you’ve done this before.

Interestingly, each enemy has a particular death animation for when they are hit by a certain type of weapon and so do the main characters.
